ForteMedia FM801 Support/Driver pages

The ForteMedia FM801 support/driver pages covers all soundcards that use the FM801-AS and FM801-AU chips.  The only difference between the two chips of importance is only the newer FM801-AU can support AC-3/dts pass-thru. Both chips still use the same drivers and we haven't seen any differences between drivers for boards with 2, 4 or 6 analog outputs.

The boards that use or have used the FM801-AS and FM801-AU chips that we know of are/were Abit’s AU10, BestData’s Theatrix, Skywell’s Magic Sound Live, Mushroom Siren Audio I, Mushroom Siren Audio I Plus, Atrend’s MSC-3DS801, MediaTek Sound Image SY-6IX, MediaTek Sound Image SY-4X4, MediaTek Sound Image Value, Mediaforte PCI256-3D, Mediaforte Quad X-Treme 256, Mediaforte Quad X-Treme 256R, Mediaforte Theatre X-Treme 5.1, Mediaforte True Blue PC DVD Theatre Kit, Hitpoint's 4-Tran PCI 4, Hitpoint's Dr. Sound 2.1, Hitpoint's ALS-4000, Hitpoint's Musonic 5.1, Terratec SoundSystem 512i digital, Addonics' Sound Vision 350, Addonics' Sound Vision 1100, Addonics' Sound Vision 6000, Genius Sound Maker Live 5.1. There are probably several other boards and motherboards that use or have used on of these chips too.

From what we have seen the board makers make few if any changes to the reference drivers ForteMedia develops. Unfortunately ForteMedia has stopped to release the reference directly to the consumers but you should still be able to download drivers from another board maker if the one you bought the board from are doing a poor job of releasing the reference drivers in a reasonable amount of time. It's of course unsupported and you may not get any support if you don't use the correct driver.  If you find some difference of significance between two drivers based on the same reference driver let us know

For more detailed info about the current drivers for the FM801-AS and FM801-AU based boards as well as download links check out our Windows 9x, WindowsNT, WindowsME or Windows XP/2000 ForteMedia FM801 support pages.

For other chips and audio solutions from ForteMedia we suggest you check out their site. Currently that only includes the older FM801-A1 chip and a software solution.
