All about Aureal's technology including the APIs (A3D 1.0, 2.0, 3.0), sound cards, chips (including the Vortex 2 and Motorola DSP), speakers and anything else you can think of with respect to Aureal's technology. For support questions check out our support FAQ.
Aureal has provided their chip specs to 4Front who have beta drivers available. http://www.opensound.com/
Aureal is also writing their own drivers for Linux.
In fact, a binary Linux driver for all Vortex chipsets—with basic audio functionality, including full duplex PCM playback and record, multiple audio channels, analog joystick, mixer, MPU-401, and OSS compatibility—is currently in beta testing. According to Aureal, Linux.com will have the exclusive news about their public Linux driver release. According to Aureal, their goal is to continue adding new features as development permits. They also intend to support an Open Source model on the drivers in the near future.
As for A3D support, they are currently wrapping up the final issues in releasing the A3D 3.0 Software Development Kit for the Windows OSes. Porting A3D 3.0 to other platforms is the next task for that engineering group. They are also closely working with other Linux developers to ensure that they (Aureal) create something that will have a very positive impact on audio and gaming in the Linux environment.
Beta drivers are currently available from http://linux.aureal.com We have not tested them but according to reports they as expected have no A3D support and there is also no wavetable support but otherwise they are working well. For more information visit Aureal linux site as they have set up their own linux specific FAQ. - Updated: January 24, 2000
