If you have a problem with installing new drivers for your Vortex card or Vortex2 where Windows detects new hardware but when you point it to the correct directory Windows doesn't find anything the following could solve you're problem:
Vortex2 cards:
Open the AU30MULT.INF file in notepad and add this line to the section that reads '[AurealSemiconductor]'. Make sure it's all on one line!
If you wonder why this happens the following explanation from David Gasior should help:
It's not actually a problem, however. Microsoft requires for WHQL certification that each device string line be complete - including the sub vendor ID. If its not, then it will not pass WHQL. So Aureal has to submit with all known sub vendor IDs listed. Which means that if your card doesn't have a sub vendor ID listed, or in the case of the MX300 where some of them are corrupted, the drivers will not install. Removing the sub vendor ID from one of the lines allows it to load because it just checks the card's ID and doesn't bother with the sub vendor information. It will never be fixed in the Aureal drivers for this reason. I would get the MX300 exchanged through Diamond. - Updated: November 29, 1999
