  • F.A.Q: Vortex 2 Technical Support FAQ

A collection of technical support questions and answers for soundcards based on Aureal's Vortex 2 chip. Many questions and answers are provided courtesy of Aureal but are not the official position of Aureal Inc.

    4. DRIVERS: What are reference drivers and why should I use them? - Top

Reference drivers are basic drivers written by Aureal for our Vortex chipsets. Based on these reference drivers, board manufacturers create drivers for their sound cards. In most
cases, you should always use your manufacturer’s drivers; however, since the reference drivers will always be the latest, you may want to use the reference driver if it fixes a problem that you’ve been experiencing. You may lose out on any additional functionality incorporated into the manufacturer’s drivers.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that Aureal will not provide support for you and your use of their drivers. It is still up to your sound card manufacturer to provide you withupport, and they may not support you if you are not using their drivers.

You can get them from Aureal's driver download page. - Updated: November 29, 1999
