Scipher signs C-Media Electronics to license new 3D sound technology

11 August 2000. Scipher plc, the technology development and licensing company, announces the award of a license to C-Media Electronics, the leading Taiwanese PC chip manufacturer, for its 'Sensaura' 3D Sound technology. The agreement allows C-Media to distribute Sensaura technology with their audio chips - significantly increasing the availability of Sensaura worldwide.
  • The outstanding international success of Sensaura has reinforced its position as the de facto 3D audio standard for the global PC market, with the product being represented in more than an estimated 25 million PCs worldwide.
  • The partnership with C-Media provides an important additional channel for the distribution of Sensaura to soundcard and PC manufacturers globally.
  • The new licensing agreement will give C-Media access to exclusive 'Sensaura' innovations, increasing the competitiveness of their audio chip product range.

"We are proud to announce our partnership with Sensaura, who we feel offer the most complete 3D audio solution for the PC industry. We have always taken great pride in offering the best price/performance ratio products in the PC market and will continue to do so with this new Sensaura option", said Eric Cheng, CEO C-Media.

Sensaura continues to extend the boundaries of 3D audio realism for speakers and headphones resulting in the recent launch of several innovative products. The C-Media chip will include the following specific Sensuara features:

  • Sensuara MacroFX™ creates 'near-field proximity effects' as experienced in real-life when objects move very close to the listener, such as bees buzzing around your head or bullets flying past your ear.
  • Sensuara EnvironmentFX™ up to 26 different pre-set sound effects are provided such as underwater environments, caverns etc.
  • Sensaura MultiDrive™ integrates front and rear sound hemispheres with such precision that you will start looking over your shoulder for reassurance that there isn't anyone or anything behind you!

Dr Ken Gray, Chairman of Scipher, said: "We are delighted to extend our partnership with C-Media through this licensing agreement. C-Media is a key licensee as its market is growing rapidly both in Asia and the US. Sensaura is now the world's leading 3D sound company and through our licensees we are making Sensaura products available to an ever increasing number of end users.''
