SRS Labs' TruSurround(TM) Technology Featured in Toshiba's New Broadcast Satellite Digital High Definition Televisions and Tuner

Toshiba's New BS Digital Hi-Vision Tuner and Two Digital FACE TVs for the Japanese Market Feature TruSurround Technology By SRS Labs

SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- SRS Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRSL), a leading provider of innovative audio and voice technology solutions, today announced that Toshiba has licensed TruSurround by SRS for use in two new digital televisions and a digital tuner compatible with all Broadcast Satellite (BS) digital signals -- the world's first digital TV equipped with SRS Labs' TruSurround technology.

A 32`` television (32D2000), the first of Toshiba's new BS digital Hi-Vision series with TruSurround, has been released in Japan this August as part of Toshiba's Digital FACE Series. Other products released this month include a 36'' television (36D2000) and a BS digital Hi-Vision Tuner (TT-D2000), shipped within Japan on September 1st, both containing TruSurround from SRS Labs. Prices start at approximately US$4,000 for the 32`` TV. Toshiba expects monthly sales volumes of 10,000 for the 32'' TV, 7,000 for the 36`` TV and 10,000 units for the Tuner as reported in June by Toshiba Japan.

``We have forged a strong relationship with SRS Labs in Japan through this Hi-Vision television and tuner project and will continue working together on new products. Our work with SRS Labs and adoption of TruSurround have allowed us to insure that the sound quality of our products match our image quality,'' said Mr. Minoru Kai, Technology Executive and General Manager of Toshiba's Personal & Multimedia Systems Development Center. ``TruSurround is an important feature of our new Hi-Vision products for the BS digital market.''

As a leader in innovative audio technologies, SRS Labs' proprietary audio technologies continue to penetrate leading consumer electronics markets through licensing contracts with top-tier industry manufacturers. ``We are pleased to team up with Toshiba Japan on their new, cutting-edge line of BS digital televisions and tuners,'' said Tom Yuen, Chairman and CEO of SRS Labs. ``Toshiba's new product series, featuring iLINK technology, is an exciting new direction for audio and digital technologies, setting the future direction for audio-visual digital networks.''

Actual BS digital broadcasting of various services for Toshiba's Hi-Vision TV series is far superior to conventional analog terrestrial television broadcasting in terms of picture and sound quality. BS digital televisions and tuners, therefore, demand new high-tech audio solutions. ``SRS Labs' TruSurround allows us to take advantage of these superior digital sound features, providing an exciting audio immersion experience for our customers,'' said Mr. Minoru Kai.

The new products are suitable for all BS digital television broadcasts with high picture and sound quality, high quality radio broadcasts accompanied by still images, and data broadcasting support such as e-commerce including retail shopping and banking. Full-fledged BS digital broadcasting services will start in Japan this coming December. The industry is anticipating a fast adoption rate, with 10 million households expected to have BS digital broadcasting equipment by the year 2003.
