Specialty Retailer Introduces Stereo CD Player & Radio with 20 Soothing Soundscapes |
| SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2000--Sharper Image Corporation (Nasdaq:SHRP) today introduced its
exclusive portable CD Radio/Alarm Clock with Sound Soother® 20. This compact stereo CD player offers 20 different and unusual relaxing sound environments, plus a digital AM/FM scan tuner with 20 presets, and even a talking clock with talking barometric weather trend. It's an innovative way to fill any room with one's favorite sounds -- music, radio, soothing sounds -- morning, noon and night. Created by Sharper Image Design(TM), the Company's in-house development team, the CD Radio/Alarm Clock with Sound Soother® 20 and Talking Time & Weather Trend is available exclusively through The Sharper Image's more than 90 retail stores, the Company's mail-order catalog and its Web site, www.sharperimage.com. The compact travel case features built-in quality dual stereo speakers that provide an excellent listening experience for all the many options. CD play is programmable and the wake-up alarm can be the CD track of ones choice. The all-new Sound Soother® 20 features 20 digitally recorded sounds. Many are of natural environments, such as ``Everglades'' and ``Yosemite Falls;'' others of familiar, comforting sounds such as ``Wind Chimes'' and ``Fireside;'' and some of manmade sounds, such as ``City'' and ``Roadside,'' for homesick urban dwellers trapped in a quiet countryside. The LCD screen lights up for easy viewing of the time (12/24 option), date, the room temperature (degrees F or degrees C option) and the barometric weather trend (improving, steady or worsening). For those who wish to know the time without looking, users can simply press ``Report'' to hear a pleasant voice announce both the time and the weather trend. The adjustable one-hour Sleep Timer allows users to listen to any of the 20 soothing sounds, CD music or the radio as they fall asleep; during the final five minutes, the volume slowly ramps down to silence to avoid any abrupt change that might wake up the user. In the morning, the wake-up ramp-up snooze alarm can be any selected CD track, a preset radio station, a buzzer or the sound of Church Bells. All of these features fit into one sleek, compact case that folds down while still leaving the speakers uncovered and music controls reachable. The case comes in three finishes and measures 9``x 6''x 2`` and weighs 32 oz. For portability, it can run on 6 AA batteries; or plug it in using an optional AC adapter. ``The CD Radio/Alarm Clock with Sound Soother® 20 is a sensational product for everyone, wherever they are, around the clock,'' said Richard Thalheimer, founder, chairman and chief executive officer. ``It lets you start your day, fill your day, and end your day, with the sounds you enjoy the most -- from CD music to any of 20 different relaxing sound environments. It's great for virtually any room in the house, plus the office; and it's great when traveling,'' Mr. Thalheimer concluded. The new CD Radio/Alarm Clock with Sound Soother® 20 is one of several proprietary products The Sharper Image will introduce this holiday season. Sharper Image Design(TM) products are conceived, designed, engineered, packaged, contract manufactured and marketed solely by The Sharper Image.
