Palm and Shinei Announce First MIDI Synthesizer for Palm Handhelds

Tsunamidi Peripheral Lets Users Compose and Edit Music On the Go

SANTA CLARA, Calif., and SINGAPORE, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM - news) and Shinei International today announced the release of the Tsunamidi product, the first add-on MIDI player for Palm(TM) handheld computers. The add-on sled peripheral for Palm V and Palm Vx handhelds allows amateur and professional musicians to break free from the studio to write and create music wherever inspiration hits them.

The Tsunamidi portable MIDI player, from Shinei International, is a state-of-the-art, portable recording studio developed for use with Palm V series handhelds. This mobile music authoring and editing tool is General MIDI compliant and contains a built-in speaker and external stereo headphone connector for private monitoring of the user's creative efforts. Built with standard MIDI IN and MIDI OUT connectors, the Tsunamidi product allows musicians to connect their instruments to the Palm V series handhelds for composition and playback on external MIDI devices. The Tsunamidi add-on also comes bundled with free trial versions of Minimusic's Notepad and Beatpad applications, and Tobel Studio's Noter software. It also includes MIDI software applications that enable users to compose songs using graphic sheet music, and an array of on-screen instruments, including a keyboard and drum patterns. The user can then use various remix tools to put the musical pieces together.

``The Tsunamidi product is a valuable and convenient add-on for musicians everywhere,'' said T. Nakagaki, chairman, Shinei Group. ``Its tools to create and edit music complement the Palm V handheld's mobility and simplicity to allow musicians to practice their art wherever they are.''

``Composing music has been traditionally limited to a studio,'' said Byron Connell, vice president, Consumer Markets Group, Palm, Inc. ``The Tsunamidi frees musicians to compose music anywhere with just their Palm handheld and their imagination.''

Tsunamidi users can choose to power the product with two AA batteries or a DC IN connector for an external power source. The device, which has an estimated street price of $129, is available through The Palm Store at http://store.palm.com and at www.tsunamidi.com.
