| Maestro3.COMM Solution Provides High-Performance, Cost-Effective Solution to OEMs |
| FREMONT, Calif., May 19
-- ESS Technology, Inc., the world leader in PC audio, introduces its
Maestro3.COMM(TM) audio-modem combo solution for the notebook market. This solution is
designed to meet the next-generation notebook PC's requirements for highly integrated
solutions that are high-performance and cost-effective. The audio portion of the Maestro3.COMM solution consists of the Maestro3, an addition to the Maestro digital accelerator family. The modem (.COMM) portion consists of ESS' industry leading 56kbps (V.90) data, fax, HSP SuperLink(TM) modem. The tightly-coupled Maestro3.COMM architecture also addresses the needs of the new industry-standard module form-factors MDC and Mini-PCI. ``Besides its price/performance benefits, the Maestro3.COMM is a compelling solution to OEMs because of the combined audio-modem driver architecture, which significantly reduces the OEMs' resources for system validation and Microsoft WHQL submission,'' states Bill Windsor, director of PC product marketing for ESS Technology. ``We are very pleased to have already secured over five major OEM designs with this solution.'' SuperLink Test Results ESS Technology's audio/modem chipsets have been tested by Henderson Communications Laboratories, the international leader in data, PCM, Fax, Cellular, ISDN and xDSL testing. When compared to modems from other modem suppliers including Lucent, Rockwell and US Robotics, the ESS audio/modem chipsets -- both DSP and HSP -- ranked the highest in both connect speed and throughput compared to all other modems tested by Henderson. ESS Technology's PCI Audio Accelerator The Maestro3 audio accelerator consists of a powerful audio signal processor featuring full ACPI support, complete DOS legacy compatibility and support for two additional PCI bus masters. With complete Microsoft DirectSound 3D support, the Maestro3 accelerates the DirectSound API by digitally mixing up to thirty-two PCM streams of any frequency into a single output. The Maestro3 also features S/PDIF out for digital audio and MIDI, an EEPROM interface for subsystem vendor identification and proven digital docking support.
