The World's Most Popular Software for Watching DVDs on a PC Now Available at Fry's Electronics |
| FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 21
/PRNewswire/ -- InterVideo, Inc. today announced that WinDVD, the world's most popular way
to watch DVDs on a PC, is now available for purchase in two versions at Fry's Electronics.
The availability of WinDVD and WinDVD Plus at Fry's marks the debut of InterVideo in the
U.S. consumer retail market. InterVideo is offering its DVD playing software in two versions: WinDVD and WinDVD Plus, each with unique audio support. WinDVD features full audio capabilities including Dolby Digital decoding for 2 to 5.1 channels and Dolby Headphones for virtual surround sound with only two speakers. WinDVD Plus includes the same Dolby support and also features DTS audio decoding -- including playback for DTS-encoded, multi-channel CDs. DTS is regarded by many as the best-sounding movie surround format and DTS sound tracks are available on many popular DVD titles. WinDVD retails for $49.95 and WinDVD Plus for $69.95. ``As a company dedicated to bringing the best digital sound possible to all media, including the PC, DTS is proud to be a part of InterVideo's WinDVD product, which includes the first software-based DTS decoder for the PC,'' said Jon Kirchner, President and CEO of DTS. ``The introduction of the product at the retail level will ensure that even more people have the opportunity to experience all that WinDVD offers.'' ``PC manufacturers like Dell, Compaq, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Gateway, Toshiba and many others have shown their support for WinDVD by bundling it with their computers,'' said Steve Ro, CEO and co-founder of InterVideo. ``In addition, the consumer demand for WinDVD has resulted in thousands and thousands of sales through our Web site. Now, with the introduction of WinDVD into the retail market through Fry's Electronics, even more people will be able to enjoy crystal clear DVD movies on their computer in full surround sound.'' With over 15 million users, WinDVD features the industry's best video and audio playback for DVD movies, as well as advanced features possible only on a PC. For example, time stretching lets users watch movies faster while maintaining natural audio, bookmarking enables users to thumbnail favorite scenes for instant access and zooming allows users to zoom in on details within a playing movie -- none of which are available on stand-alone DVD players. Established in 1985, Fry's Electronics is a rapidly growing retail chain with 19 stores in four states: California, Texas, Arizona and Oregon. All of Fry's Electronics stores sell, service and support: computer hardware and software products, technical books, integrated circuits, electronic components and accessories, audio, car audio, video, telecommunications, appliances and personal electronics, music CDs, DVDs and general merchandise items.
