Reference Quality Speakers For PC Audio: Creative Redefines The High End With Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 510D

Unleash the power of 5.1 sound cards with standard-setting speakers featuring innovative design, 24-bit 96kHz digital input, startling dynamics and up to 500 watts of pure dynamic power

Creative (Nasdaq: CREAF) the worldwide leader in digital entertainment products for users of the personal computer and the Internet, announces its latest ground-breaking 6-channel speaker set from Cambridge SoundWorks® - the MegaWorks 510D. With five satellites, a powered subwoofer and digital connectivity, this system sets new standards in technology, sound processing and sheer quality by incorporating 24-bit 96kHZ digital-to-analog converters to achieve a 95db signal-to-noise ratio, addressing three critical areas of the audiophile experience - smoothness, bandwidth and output.

"This product redefines the concept of excellence for more demanding users, and influences the structure of the speaker market as well as the expectations of value-conscious audio perfectionists," explains Leonardo Colucci, European Brand Manager for Speakers with Creative Labs Europe. "With its incredible digital connectivity, users can unleash the full capabilities of 5.1 sound cards such as the Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy™; family, which take full advantage of the MegaWorks' 24-bits and data rate signals up to 96kHz. Just connect - and enjoy the wall-shaking impact of EAX™ ADVANCED HD enabled games, ultra-real Dolby Digital 5.1 movie soundtracks, and MP3 or CD playback," he adds.

The MegaWorks speakers complete the end-to-end audio experience by maintaining the digital experience from the sound card to the speakers, and ensuring clean, interference-free sound in any installation environment. The smoothness of the mid range frequency sound generated is crisp and clear, and the listening experience is astounding. At the same time, it is simple to use and features an attractive and compact design.

Smoothness
A 'smooth' speaker should operate seamlessly across the full frequency spectrum without booming or screeching; it should also spread sound evenly, so the listener can choose a relaxed listening position and arrange the units flexibly. The satellite speakers in the MegaWorks 510D meet these demanding criteria by observing the following:

  • Bearing in mind the design challenge to obtain smooth, continuous output across seven octaves from small enclosures that could be placed close to the listener, Cambridge SoundWorks used an advanced single driver and a precise 4-element compensation circuit to provide the 150-16,000Hz frequency coverage.
  • Even if the listener sits off-centre, these speakers work across a 30-degree spread vertically and horizontally. This means that the overall balance of sound is the same and the resultant stereo image is stable and lifelike. No other satellites are as flexible.
  • The satellite design also encompasses low frequencies down to 150Hz without sacrificing its compactness. The use of rare earth elements in the magnet gave precisely these benefits, enabling the satellites to sound 'full range' even without the subwoofer.

Together, these features give incredible results with complex inputs such as Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and 4.1 positional audio gaming. Because all satellites are finely matched and tolerant of position, the sound field they create is uniquely stable and lifelike.

Bandwidth
The subwoofer, with its long-throw driver, complements the performance of the satellite speakers. The use of 'active equalization' ensures smooth output at all bass frequencies, giving a broad, flat response that blends seamlessly with output from the satellites and sounds natural and unforced.

Gamers and movie lovers will rediscover their existing titles because these speakers reveal special effects the way their authors intended. Unlike others, this unique home multimedia subwoofer responds very deeply and strongly.

Output
The Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 510D is one of the few multimedia speaker systems available with full digital input support for three 2-channel streams of digital sound - front, left and right; rear, left and right; and centre. Connectivity is via a single three-channel miniplug, for the ultimate in 5.1 convenience. Output is rated at a dynamic power of 500 Watts. The capacity and power of this system provide incredible headroom for subtle tones and effects, and opens a whole new world of sound in movies, games and digital effects to our users.
