SRSWOWcast Technologies Announces SRS Circle Surround(TM) Multi-Channel Audio Encoder for Video-on-Demand and Streaming Media Markets

Company Demonstrates SRS Circle Surround Encoder for Up to 5.1 Surround Sound Delivery, WOWCaster Audio Processor for Internet Radio And SRS Audio Processing Center Encoding Software

SANTA ANA, Calif., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- SRSWOWcast Technologies, ( www.srstechnologies.com ) a subsidiary of SRS Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRSL) and B2B provider of audio and voice enhancement technology solutions for broadcasting and streaming media, today announces its new high-performance multi-channel Circle Surround audio encoding plug-in for its SRS Audio Processing Center (APC) software. SRSWOWcast is providing live demonstrations of this powerful streaming surround sound solution in booth 1744 at the Streaming Media East tradeshow and will also be demonstrating the WOWCaster Internet Radio audio processor that received the Digital WebCast Best of Show Award at Streaming Media West earlier this year.

The company will also demonstrate its WOW(TM) technology featured in Microsoft's Windows(TM) Media Player for Windows XP(TM) and the recently announced TruSurround XT surround sound virtualizer in Microsoft's Windows XP Partner Pavilion, booth 704 at the Internet World conference, which is being held concurrently with Streaming Media East in New York City, Dec. 11-13.

The new Circle Surround (CS) encoding software enables the encoding of five channels of audio and video material into just two channels (the same as stereo) and delivers full-bandwidth audio over as little as 128kbs. This reduction in bandwidth usage enables a larger segment of the consumer market to access on-demand streaming media and video content, while significantly reducing the bandwidth consumption and delivery costs for content companies.

About the Demonstrations at Streaming Media East, Booth #1744:

    -- Circle Surround(TM) Encoding Plug-in: Designed as a "plug-in" for the
SRS APC encoding system, the CS encoder enables encoding into the CS
format for storage and delivery of full-bandwidth audio performance
via the Internet, traditional broadcast and other media formats (e.g.
VHS, CD, DVD) using existing stereo bandwidth at as low as 128kbs with
no artifacts. Suggested applications include music, live concerts,
movie trailers and video-on-demand. CS encoded audio is backward
compatible with stereo, Dolby(R) Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, SRS Labs' CS
5.1 and CS II surround decoders. For the ultimate in surround sound
playback, CS II decoders are recommended since they also provide
dialog clarity, bass enrichment and dual-band steering. The CS
encoding software is available now and the company plans to introduce
a professional rack mount hardware version of the CS encoder in the
        first quarter of 2002.

-- Audio Processing Center Software: This software suite enables audio
content to be pre-processed with proprietary SRS audio technologies
prior to compression, storage and delivery for Windows(TM), Real(TM),
QuickTime(TM) or any streaming format. Processing technologies in the
software include SRS Labs' award-winning WOW(TM) audio processor,
which enables dramatically higher quality audio sound experiences
while utilizing less bandwidth, resulting in increased cost-savings
and customer satisfaction. Also included is a mono-to-3D stereo
        technology, SRS 3D Mono; a voice intelligibility technology, VIP;
TruSurround XT enabling the creation of virtual surround sound over
two speakers from 5.1 media; and the new Circle Surround encoder for
delivery of up to 5.1 surround over 128kbs.

-- WOWCaster Internet Radio Processor: This compact hardware audio
processor dramatically improves the sound quality of Internet radio
content while drastically reducing streaming costs. Based on SRS
Labs' award-winning WOW(TM) technology, also used by Microsoft in the
Windows Media Player, the WOWCaster is utilized as a pre-processing
device that improves the sound quality of music, makes mono material
sound better, restores presence to voice content and reduces bandwidth
usage. For example, a company who streams in stereo at 96kbs can save
28.1 MB in bandwidth and increase the audio quality for their
customers if they pre-process the content with WOW and deliver at
32kbs. To hear a firsthand example of how SRS technology can make a
32K music clip sound as good, if not better, than a 96K regular stereo
        clip, visit http://www.srswowcast.com/demo/media/asp/wow96k.asp or
visit the full demo section of the website for samples of music clips
at a variety of bit rates, www.srstechnologies.com/demo . Any
Internet company's cost savings can be calculated instantly by
stopping by the SRSWOWcast booth or by contacting the company.

About the Demonstrations at Internet World in Microsoft's Partner Pavilion, Booth #704:

-- WOW(TM) in the Windows Media Player: The Company is showcasing the
use of its award-winning WOW technology in Microsoft's Windows Media
Player for Windows XP. The WOW feature provides dramatic improvements
to digitally compressed audio during music or video playback in the
Media Player creating a larger and more immersive sweet spot and
providing a deeper, rich bass experience.

-- TruSurround XT: SRS Labs' new TruSurround XT surround sound
virtualizer creates an incredibly immersive virtual surround sound
audio experience on PCs when playing DVD 5.1 movies over just two
speakers or headphones with the added features of a special dialog
clarity making dialog in movies much clearer and easier to understand
and proprietary bass enrichment providing a much deeper, bass
        experience.
