DVD RECORDING TAKES CENTER STAGE AT TRIPLE PREMIERE IN FRANCE

GEAR Software Gives Sneak Preview of GEAR PRO for DVD at DVD Product Briefing in Paris, Along With Pioneer and Mitsui

JUPITER, FL  -- July 20, 1999 -- On the heels of the debut of GEAR Software's GEAR(tm) PRO for DVD, GEAR's French distributor, Art Ingenierie, recently hosted the triple premiere of the most innovative companies in the DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) recording industry.  The cutting-edge CD-R and DVD-R software from GEAR, the state-of the-art hardware from Pioneer
Electronic Europe and today's most advanced CD-Recordable media from Mitsui Advanced Media indicate that they are destined to take DVD recording technology to new heights.

During the triple premiere in Paris, France, GEAR Software demonstrated the latest developments of GEAR PRO for DVD. This professional mastering software for Windows, features drag-and-drop functionality and fast data transfer rates without loss of data integrity. The software has proven to be the ideal solution for on-off production to test multimedia applications, archive audio and video, master custom DVDs and CDs for digital audio,
video, game titles and much more.  Further, GEAR PRO for DVD supports DVD-ROM formatting; most DVD recorders, including Pioneer's 101 and 201 models; all CD-Recordable and CD-Rewritable recorders; pre-master tape drives for CD and DVD mastering; and CD Jukeboxes.

"We intend to play a significant role in the DVD market," said Bob Hoxey, European Channel Development Manager for GEAR Software.  "We've listened to our customers.  We've worked hard to develop many of the capabilities they've asked for.   And now, we're about to introduce the most reliable, versatile and cost-effective DVD solution ever brought to the marketplace,"
Hoxey continued.

DVD technology offers up to seven times the storage capacity of a standard CD.  GEAR PRO for DVD has been specially designed to create large 3.95 GB CDs, plus 4.7 GB DVD in Universal Disk Format (UDF).  It offers the best of both worlds, allowing the creation of hybrid ISO 9660 / UDF disks, which are backwards compatible with the ISO 9660 format.

According to Chris Green, Technical Editor of Computing Magazine, "DVD is moving on in leaps and bounds in both hardware and software development. The type of software that GEAR has demonstrated, shows that they are at the forefront of providing the tools for both home and professional commercial users of this fast emerging technology."

During this triple premiere, Pioneer introduced its second generation of DVD recorders, DVR-S201.  It utilizes the performance of DVD format for SCSI2 recording interface, using single-layer and single-sided 3.95 GB and 4.7 GB disks.  Mitsui introduced its new DVD-R disks that have the maximum capacity of six times that of the standard CD-R disk.

GEAR PRO for DVD is slated to debut in September, 1999.  GEAR is currently accepting qualified Beta Testers.
