Sound Blaster(R) Audigy(TM) Delivers High-Speed IEEE-1394 Transfer to Devices |
| MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 28
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Creative Technology Ltd. (Nasdaq: CREAF), the worldwide leader
in digital entertainment products for users of personal computers and the Internet, today
announced its SB1394(TM) Certification Program, designed to ensure seamless operation of
IEEE-1394 devices with Creative's Sound Blaster Audigy sound card family. Creative SB1394 is an IEEE-1394a /SBP-2 compliant interface that is integrated with the new Sound Blaster Audigy line of PC audio cards. It provides a high-speed serial input/output (I/O) digital connectivity solution and enables a vast increase in content transfer rate from the PC to digital devices and external drives. As specified by the IEEE-1394a standard, devices connected to a PC via a Creative SB1394 interface can transfer audio and video content at up to 400 Mbps, as much as 30 times faster than USB 1.1. SB1394 also establishes superior peer-to-peer PC networking capability with other PCs equipped with Sound Blaster Audigy. The Creative SB1394 Certification Program was developed to give consumers not only the assurance of compatibility and trouble-free installation, but also performance between Creative SB1394 and other 1394-equipped systems and devices. Products that are Creative SB1394 Certified may carry a special logo on packaging, for easy identification by consumers. The Creative SB1394 Certification Program for IEEE-1394 devices includes testing in data transfer, power management, and a hot plug test. As sales projections for digital video camcorders stand at more than 8 million units for 2002*, a significant number of consumers will find an immediate application for video transfer using SB1394. Canon DV camcorders are among the devices that are currently Creative SB1394 Certified. ``The Creative SB1394 Certification Program brings to light the fact that Canon camcorders can transfer video to the PC at 1394 speed. It increases our product benefits when customers can store and share their images and videos with friends and family so much more easily and quickly,'' said Michael Zorich, assistant director of marketing, Photographic Products Group, Canon U.S.A. A number of storage solutions from manufacturers such as Maxtor® Corporation are Creative SB1394 Certified. ``We are excited to work with Creative on the implementation of IEEE-1394-based technology to make the backup and storage of MP3, video and data files extremely fast and easy,'' said Bentley Nelson, director of strategic marketing, Consumer Electronics Business at Maxtor. ``Using IEEE-1394 for convenient connectivity to Creative's Sound Blaster Audigy, our high performance Maxtor External Storage and 3000DV Personal Storage products offer the capacity to store thousands of digital music and image files, along with many hours of video content, which can easily be moved from one system to another.''
