Altec Lansing® Technologies Debuts XA Video Game Speakers At E3 Expo 2002

Powerful, Full-Frequency Speakers Transform Typical TVs, Providing Incredible Play Experience for Any Game System Including Xbox®, GameCubeTM, PlayStation® 2

LOS ANGELES CONVENTION CENTER, BOOTH 2240 (WEST HALL) - May 22, 2002 - - Altec Lansing® Technologies, Inc., the long-time leader in the design and manufacture of computer speaker systems, today announced the debut of the XA Video Game Speaker line at E3 Expo 2002 in Los Angeles. Designed to satisfy the unmet demand for better video game sound, Altec Lansing's new XA products completely transform the typical TV, delivering the powerful, high- and low-frequency response gamers insist on.

"The average television purchased in the U.S. offers only three watts of audio per speaker, and only produces mid-range frequencies," said Mark Lucas, president and CEO, Altec Lansing. "While this may be sufficient for typical television programming, it does not come close to meeting the high and low frequency demands of today's video gamers."

Designed for use with the latest and hottest video game consoles, including the Xbox®, GameCubeTM, and PlayStation® 2, the new XA line fills a market void by enabling game lovers to quickly and easily create a more robust video gaming environment at an affordable price. The XA line will also greatly improve the audio of TV shows and DVD movies by reproducing frequencies that are often omitted from television speakers.

The new XA line includes three different speaker systems to meet a range of needs and budgets:

  • XA 3001, a one-piece system designed to enhance existing television speakers, is available at an MSRP of $49.95. The XA 3001, a subwoofer for your TV, brings out the low frequencies of a video game's soundtrack and adds "rumble effects" to the gaming experience with 30 watts of total system power.
  • XA 3021, a three-piece speaker system designed to replace television audio, is available at an MSRP of $99.95. The two stereo satellite speakers combine with a powerful subwoofer to create a remarkable listening experience, with sparkling highs and ground-shaking lows from 40 watts of total system power. Additionally, a wired remote control includes volume, bass equalization, and two headphone jacks (for late-night gaming without waking the neighbors).
  • XA 3051, a premium six-piece system featuring five satellite speakers and a subwoofer, is scheduled for July, 2002 release and will be available for $199.95 MSRP. It features 100 watts of total system power, and DolbyTM Surround Pro LogicTM technology, to create an amazingly rich and immersive video game experience. It also adds pulse-quickening excitement to watching DVDs or other television programming.

"Video game consoles are currently a $4.5 billion industry," noted Lucas. "Our move beyond the PC and into this market is founded on extensive research. We're confident these new speakers will provide gaming enthusiasts and TV fans with an easy, affordable way to upgrade their TV audio for greater entertainment."

Altec Lansing's new XA line of video game speakers for TV is available through major consumer electronics and toy retailers.
