Analog Devices' SoundMAX Digital Audio System Included in HP Pavilion Desktop PCs

ADI's premium-performance audio system incorporated into the leading consumer PC

NORWOOD, Mass., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI) today announced that its SoundMAX(R) Digital Audio System will be available this summer through HP's configure-to-order program via www.hpshopping.com, as well as in retail kiosks and consumer electronics and computer superstores nationwide. The SoundMAX audio system provides features that surpass the functionality of premium sound cards at a fraction of the price.

SoundMAX delivers an extraordinary sound experience on today's home PCs for audiophiles, gamers and consumers. It provides optimal performance by combining an AC-97 hardware codec installed on the motherboard with software preloaded in the computer for better sound quality in audio music CDs, MP3 files, DVD movie soundtracks, MIDI music, Internet audio and enhanced game audio. In addition, because it is integrated directly onto the PC's motherboard, it requires no end-user installation.

"Adding SoundMAX to HP Pavilion home PCs allows us to deliver an exceptional audio package to consumers," said Ameer Karim, senior worldwide product manager, HP Consumer PC Global Business Unit. "The addition of SoundMAX means yet another choice in audio for consumers, complementing our breadth of offerings in the HP Pavilion line."

SoundMAX delivers the same playback quality in a PC as is found in consumer electronic devices, but adds 3D speaker enhancement and Virtual Theater 5.1 for a more natural and immersive 3D sound stage. It also supports all major game audio technologies including DirectSound 3D, EAX and A3D. In addition, SoundMAX enables the exclusive SPX(TM) (Sound Production eXtensions) technology, which renders hyper-realistic sound effects in today's most popular games.

"We are delighted that HP has selected SoundMAX to fulfill its customer demand for high-performance audio in the HP Pavilion line," said John Croteau, product line director, Computer Products and Services Group, Analog Devices, Inc. "Feature-for-feature, the SoundMAX system matches or exceeds any sound card offering currently available and provides the additional benefit of allowing users to upgrade via software download."
