Net MD Walkman Will Be First Portable Audio Device to Support Pressplay |
| NEW YORK, June 24
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (PC EXPO BOOTH #2622) -- Sony Electronics and pressplay, the
online music subscription service, announced today that music fans will soon have the
ability to transfer music from pressplay to Sony's popular Net MD(MD) Walkman® recorders.
Pressplay offers a wide catalog of the world's most popular music for streaming,
downloading, CD-burning and now also for transfer to portable devices. Later this summer, pressplay members will be able to transfer songs to their Net MD Walkman player/recorders for off-line listening of a wide range of music. The pressplay service, which is offered through Sony's Musiclub web site as well as such other pressplay affiliates, as MP3.com, MSN, Roxio and Yahoo, will include technology provided by Roxio that will allow users to transfer songs to their recorder. "As pressplay continues to evolve, we're excited that subscribers will be able to use the Sony Net MD Walkman player, one of the top portable devices available, to enjoy their music anytime," said pressplay Chief Operating Officer Michael Bebel. "We know that along with CD-burning, our members want more flexibility and ownership over the music particularly through portable devices." "The ability to transfer songs from pressplay to the number one selling digital music device (according to NPD Intellect, April 2002) provides consumers with more choices and flexibility to create a comprehensive music collection that they can enjoy almost anywhere," said Robert Ashcroft, senior vice president for Sony Electronics' personal mobile products division. Pressplay Pressplay gives subscribers access to a broad catalog of the world's most popular music through streaming, downloading, CD-burning and, soon, transfer to portable devices. Pressplay's vast online library features an array of rock, pop, jazz, country, hip-hop and R&B songs from the world's three largest record companies -- Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Recorded Music -- as well as numerous independent labels. Net MD Walkman Players Sony's line of Net MD Walkman player/recorders break the speed limit with a direct USB connection that transfers more than five hours of music to one $2 disc at up to 32x speed using LP 4 mode. The Net MD Walkman players are outfitted with Sony's skip-free G-Protection(TM) technology, improved battery life, and MiniDisc Long Play which uses the ATRAC3(TM) high quality sound codec for recording more than five hours of music on a standard 80-minute disc. Sony's Net MD line features four models: The MZ-N505 for about $150, the MZ-S1 for about $180, the MZ-N707 for about $230 and the MZ-N1 for about $350. Each model includes OpenMG(TM) Jukebox software, Sony's QuickRip(TM) CD dubbing application and a USB connecting cable.
