DTS Entertainment Awarded Top Honors for New DVD-Audio Format

Queen's "A Night At The Opera" and Graham Nash's "Songs For Survivors" Recognized as Best DVD-Audio Titles

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- DTS Entertainment (DTSE), the division of multi-channel audio pioneer DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) that licenses, produces and markets an extensive repertoire of DVD-Audio and 5.1 Music Discs, has recently received several major industry awards for excellence in the DVD-Audio field: 2002 Best DVD-Audio Disc (DVD Awards,) two DVD Excellence Awards (DVD Association,) and Best DVD-A Award (LA Digital Video Show.)

Most recently, DTSE received the 2002 Best DVD-Audio Disc for the 5.1-surround release of Queen's 1975 classic "A Night At The Opera." Presented at the DVD Awards' 5th Annual DVD Conference & Showcase in Universal City, CA, the honor was the only award given to a DVD outside of the DVD-Video category.

While accepting the award from host Leonard Maltin, the renowned entertainment commentator, David DelGrosso, DTSE Vice President of Marketing, stated: "The DVD-Video format is very fortunate to have thousands of great 5.1-surround movie soundtracks already available for home theater enjoyment. However, the record industry is in the opposite position of having to create surround remixes from scratch."

"We are quite honored to be recognized by this distinguished panel of judges," DelGrosso continued. "And our DTSE team is now more dedicated than ever to fulfill our original dream -- which is to bring the 5.1 surround experience to the forefront of the music industry."

Sharing the judging panel's thoughts, Leonard Maltin said: "This year's winner transcends technical limitations and age. Through a brilliant remix and the use of modern technologies, this album sounds as fresh and innovative as it did when it was first released."

In addition to "A Night At The Opera's" win at the 5th Annual DVD Awards, DTSE has also received the following recognition:

-- The largest and most influential group of interactive digital media
developers worldwide, the DVD Association (DVDA) bestowed DVD
Excellence Awards to DTSE's DVD-Audio releases of Graham Nash's
"Songs For Survivors" and Queen's "A Night At The Opera" last June.
-- Queen's "A Night At The Opera" was also awarded the Best DVD-A Award
at the July 31st DVD At Its Best ceremony (also known as the Gold
Ring Awards) staged during the LA Digital Video Show 2002, in
         Burbank, CA.

Released in April 2002, "A Night At The Opera" is the best-selling DVD-Audio title to date. Under the supervision of Queen co-founder Brian May and original album producer Roy Thomas Baker, the original multi-track masters were re-mixed into 5.1-channel surround sound by highly acclaimed recording engineer Elliot Scheiner.

The other DTSE title awarded during this year's sweep of honors is Graham Nash's "Songs For Survivors," which the legendary artist produced with Russ Kunkel and Nathaniel Kunkel. On April 30th, this release marked a historical date in the evolution of the DVD-Audio format, in that it was the first album of new material from a major artist to be released on DVD-Audio before the stereo CD retail date.

DTSE DVD-Audio discs have the distinct advantage of being playable on any DVD-Audio, DVD-Video or computer-based DVD drive. In addition to bonus features and video extras, every DTSE DVD-Audio title contains 5.1 MLP tracks for DVD-Audio players, DTS 5.1 tracks for DTS-capable DVD-Video systems, and 2.0 PCM stereo for all DVD-Video players and listeners not yet equipped for 5.1 digital surround.
