Dolby Laboratories announced at the International Broadcasting
Convention (13-17 September), that its new reference decoder,
the DP564 Multichannel Audio Decoder, is now shipping. This
exciting new tool is able to decode every Dolby®
consumer format, making it the perfect solution for monitoring
in DVD, Digital TV broadcast, and postproduction applications.
Lake’s CFO John Bell commented
“This is yet another key step towards the achievement of our
goal: for Dolby Headphone to become the standard for headphone
listening and monitoring in both consumer and professional
surround sound applications. Dolby’s dominant market
position has been built on a deep involvement in both sides of
the business, and we are delighted to see Dolby Headphone
developing in the same sustainable pattern as Dolby’s other
leading audio technologies.”
The DP564 enables decoding and
monitoring of all Dolby® Digital and Dolby
Surround content, and supports the latest technologies Dolby
Digital Surround EXTM and
Dolby Surround Pro Logic® II. All four modes of
Dolby Pro Logic II are supported: Movie, Music, Pro Logic, and
Matrix.
The unit also features a Dolby
Headphone processor for monitoring surround sound with regular
headphones. Dolby Headphone processing allows for more
accurate monitoring - and lower listener fatigue - in
environments where headphone listening is necessary.
Dolby Digital is the only
technology to be universally adopted for delivery of
high-quality surround sound worldwide, and is featured on a
wide range of home entertainment including DVDs, television
services, and games.
With preset keys for emulating
different home-listening configurations, the DP564 provides
the perfect tool for ensuring that the best possible audio
reaches all listeners, whether they have top-of-the-range home
theatres or budget mono TVs.
"This new reference decoder
combines Dolby's latest surround technologies with
comprehensive monitoring features in a single easy-to-use
package," commented Dolby's market development manager,
Jason Power. "DVD facilities and DTV operations will
welcome the new features that will make it easier to monitor
and assess the quality of their audio."
The DP564 replaces the successful
DP562 Multichannel Dolby Digital Decoder, which debuted in
July 1997.
