| Beginning this month,
business class passengers on Austrian Airlines will be able to
enjoy full surround sound with in flight movies via the
Lake-developed Dolby Headphone process.
The process, already inflight with
some of the world’s leading airlines, pre-encodes the
programme content with a Dolby Headphone soundtrack, allowing
the effect to be experienced with standard headsets.
"With the introduction of
this new feature, we have reinforced our efforts to offer a
premium service to our business class clients. We believe that
it is provides a superior experience in comparison to the
services of our competitors," said Arno Doerflinger,
Cabin Definition and Entertainment Manager for the airline.
"(To offer Dolby Headphone)
we do not need to change anything on the aircraft," said
Doerflinger. Doerflinger also said that hoped to provide
noise-cancellation headphones "to get the most benefit of
Dolby Headphone. " but could not at this time due to
budget restrictions.
Mark Rosalky, Lake’s Inflight
Customer Service Manager, said “We are delighted that
another key member of the Star Alliance has adopted Dolby
Headphone. The agreement covers all three members of the
Austrian Airlines Group, (Austrian, Lauda, and Tyrolean),
joining our existing Star Alliance customers, Singapore
Airlines and Lufthansa. Dolby Headphone is becoming a ‘must
have’ feature for those airlines who want to deliver the
best in flight experience for their customers.”
