Groundbreaking In-Ceiling Design for Home Theater Applications |
|
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept.
27, 2002--Boston Acoustics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA
- News),
a premier audio systems manufacturer,
today announced at the annual Custom
Electronic Design and Installation
Association (CEDIA) Expo 2002, booth #527,
the launch of a new, three-way in-ceiling
speaker system as its latest addition to
the company's VRi(TM) family of reference
in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Called
the VRi595, the new speaker system will be
priced at $800 and is styled to blend into
any decor and skillfully engineered with a
unique, rotating baffle so that the sound
may be directed towards the listening
position.
Mounting into the same cutout as Boston's other 8-inch in-ceiling speakers, the VRi595 speaker system features a powerful, 8-inch cast DCD(TM) (Deep Channel Design(TM)) copolymer woofer, a cast 3 1/2-inch neodymium midrange driver, and a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter that employs Boston's Amplitude Modification Device(TM) (AMD(TM)), a patented acoustical tuning device that helps to smooth high frequency response for a more natural sound. Remarkably, this 3-way system positions each of the drivers in such a way as to only occupy a 9-inch diameter in its baffle--and still preserve perfectly the acoustic dispersion needed from a high-performance, front stage home theater speaker. To further ensure ease of placement, the system also includes a boundary compensation switch to correct for wall/ceiling corners or other reflective tight spots. "The 595 was engineered specifically for home theater use in an L-C-R [left-center-right] configuration," said Chris Fontes, Boston Acoustics' director of marketing communications. "An application not often associated with an in-ceiling speaker, but one that the 595 is perfectly suited for," Fontes added. "When mounted directly in front of the screen, the VRi595's baffle can be rotated so that the sonic image is directed towards the audience. The sound appears to come from the screen itself." This kind of placement flexibility allows a consumer to have a complete system that takes up zero floor space and zero wall space--about as hidden as a home theater can get. Crafted with an aluminum grille and white trim, the VRi595 is a cosmetic match to other speakers within Boston's Designer in-wall/in-ceiling family. Fontes notes that any VRi595 hidden theater system may be completed with similar in-ceilings as rear surrounds, including the 8-inch/2-way VRi585 and 6-inch/2-way VRi565. Most importantly, the acoustic performance of the VRi595 is considered reference quality. No surprise considering that the 595's driver configuration is derived from Boston's flagship in-wall speaker, the VRi593.
