Boston Acoustics Expands Designer Line with New Dipole In-Ceiling Speakers

The VRi585T2 and DSi465T2 Offer High-Performance, Two-Channel Stereo Sound from a Single In-Ceiling Location

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2002--Boston Acoustics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA - News), a premier audio systems manufacturer, today announced at the annual Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo 2002, booth #527, the expansion of its Designer(TM) speaker line with the addition of two revolutionary, dipole in-ceiling speaker systems.

Called the VRi585T2 and DSi465T2, the new speakers are designed with two inputs, a dual voice coil woofer, and two tweeters. "The T2s have a competitive advantage in that they provide uncommon performance for two common applications," said David Kroll, Boston Acoustics' director of Custom Audio. As a "whole-house" product, either model has the ability to deliver full-range, two-channel stereo sound from a single installation location--ideal for hallways, bathrooms, and other small to midsize rooms.

As a home theater component, the VRi585T2 and DSi465T2 are both selectable for one- or two-channel input, allowing them to either be used as a single surround channel, or to operate as both a side and rear channel from a single ceiling location. Placement flexibility is also assisted by a simple switch that allows the installer to select between a diffuse or direct-radiating sound field. "And we've added another feature that custom installers will appreciate," Kroll continued. "Each T2 baffle rotates to allow the sound to be directed towards the listening position."

The VRi585T2, initially priced at $500 each, features an 8-inch cast DCD(TM) (Deep Channel Design(TM)) woofer with dual voice coils and two, 1-inch aluminum dome VR tweeters mounted in a unique aluminum floating tweeter island. The DSi465T2, priced at $350 each, features a 6-inch DCD woofer with dual voice coils and two, 1-inch Kortec® dome tweeters mounted in a floating tweeter island.
