| INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2002--Klipsch Audio Technologies announced today that its top-of-the-line
Klipsch ProMedia(TM) computer speakers have been selected by HP as the audio option for
the new HP Media Center PC, which integrates both computing and entertainment features
into an all-in-one, easy-to-use and affordable digital media center. The only PC to be available this holiday season in North America with the new Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition software, the HP Media Center PC with Klipsch ProMedia loudspeakers will combine the functionality of a PC, DVD and CD players and recorders, a TV, personal digital video recorder, a digital jukebox and other consumer electronics components for spaces where consumers would want both a PC and entertainment solution -- such as a den, game room, teenager's bedroom, dorm room or small apartment. "For this `first-of-its-kind product,' HP went looking for the best sounding multimedia speakers they could find, and we're proud that they identified the Klipsch brand," said Paul Jacobs, chief operating officer of Klipsch's Worldwide Products Group. According to Jacobs, Klipsch ProMedia speaker systems have become an obligatory element of any computer or gaming rig that boasts a "cutting edge" or "best of class" performance level. "Klipsch redefined high performance audio for the multimedia world when we launched the ProMedia speaker line at the turn of the millennium," Jacobs said. "Today, you can't flip through a computer or gaming magazine without seeing Klipsch ProMedia speakers listed among the components of editors' and reviewers' reference systems." "The HP Media Center PC is one of the first true convergence products in the marketplace and there is a high expectation for a level of performance beyond anything consumers have ever seen," said David Galvin, worldwide product marketing manager for HP Personal Systems Group. "We chose Klipsch and its ProMedia speakers on this all-in-one entertainment PC because we wanted to provide HP Media Center PC users a true home-theater sound experience." ProMedia 2.1 speaker systems, which make up the bulk of the Klipsch branded systems bundled with the new HP Media Center PC, include two satellite speakers that utilize exclusive Klipsch MicroTractrix(TM) Horn technology, a high-output, low distortion subwoofer, and a powerful, digital linear hybrid amplifier. According to Jacobs Klipsch has committed to providing HP with 35,000 ProMedia systems so far for the launch of the HP Media Center PC. Based on HP forecasts, Jacobs anticipates providing 200,000 systems total following the launch period, which values this audio partnership in the $5 million to $15 million range.
