NXT to showcase new innovations and in-market products at COMDEX 2002

Las Vegas, November 18, 2002: NXTplc, the British flat-panel audio technology company, will showcase a wide range of the latest products to incorporate NXT's SurfaceSound(TM) and SoundVu(R) technologies at COMDEX Fall 2002 in Las Vegas (Stand no. 3534, UK/Pavillion, North Hall).

The exhibition, which will be held from November 18-22, is a premier forum for the global IT industry to showcase and exchange information, and will be attended by industry leaders from technology companies around the world.

Exciting new advances in NXT's SoundVu technology will be on show, including NEC's recently launched VALUESTAR T PC system. The unique properties of SoundVu technology turn the system's 17-inch monitor into a Distributed Mode Loudspeaker, marrying sound and vision as one.

In the area of mobile communications, NXT will demonstrate the latest Siemens 'Display Speaker Phone' mobile phone. The 'Display Speaker Phone' utilizes SoundVu technology to modify the lens making it possible for the display to work with tri-modal functionality as a hands-free loudspeaker, receiver and ringer.

NXT will also be exhibiting a range of SurfaceSound technology enabled products such as the Game Boy Advance Mini-Woofer loudspeaker accessory product.; the TDK Tremor S150 Spacia multimedia speakers; the Philips Acoustic Surround Power 4.1 System; the Brookstone Wafer-Thin System; and, the SoundpaX Travellers, the latest version of the popular cardboard SoundpaX speakers.

At NXT's private hospitality suites at the Las Vegas Hilton, NXT's licensees, potential licensees and other interested parties will be able to view all the exhibition products, plus more than a dozen other innovative products, experiencing first hand the latest advances in NXT-driven audio technology.

Commenting on NXT's participation at this year's event, David Pearson, NXT's CEO said, "the ever-increasing pace of commercialization of NXT's technology means we have a lot of in-market success stories to demonstrate, and I believe that advances in the audio quality of products using our SurfaceSound and SoundVu technologies will impress."

SurfaceSound(TM) technology facts:
SurfaceSound technology is a unique flat speaker technology that utilizes a vast choice of panel materials suitable for an unlimited range of applications. Based on Distributed Mode Loudspeaker (DML) technology, in which the resonant modes of a panel are optimally excited by a transducer (exciter), SurfaceSound technology delivers a truly remarkable diffuse sound field over a wide audio frequency bandwidth.

The pure, coherent and uncoloured sound quality produced by SurfaceSound technology makes it possible to design slim, space-saving multimedia speakers that deliver expansive sound to fill the listening area.

Highlights of products employing NXT's SurfaceSound technology on show at COMDEX:

Brookstone's Wafer-Thin CD System is a sleek 2.1 system, which takes advantage of the unique design flexibility afforded by SurfaceSound technology to offer a stylish and slim look, combined with an expansive range of sound. The system is powered by a 15-watt subwoofer with a five-inch driver designed to produce a distortion-free, low-end deep bass response, regardless of the unit's position within a listening environment.

TDK Tremor S-40, with an acclaimed SurfaceSound multimedia speaker design, is the latest TDK satellite speaker system to incorporate SurfaceSound technology. Coupled with high-power multi-channel amplification and sophisticated subwoofer design, the system achieves audio performance far beyond conventional multimedia speakers.

Sonic Impact SI-5 Gen 2, the second generation Sonic Impact SI-5 portable flat panel speakers, can be used with MP3s, CD players, portable laptops and DVD players. The SI-5 Gen 2, like the original, also uses NXT's SurfaceSound technology, and incorporates an entirely new two-piece design with built in amplifier. For the first time ever in a consumer electronics product, the SI-5 has a new psycho-acoustic technology embedded called MaxxBass*.

Radica Mini-Woofer loudspeaker, Nintendo's latest Game Boy Advance accessory, is a compact speaker system which, by using SurfaceSound technology, is able to create an unique audio experience from a flat speaker panel. NXT technology offers game accessory and peripherals manufacturers acoustic advantages over traditional technology associated with its broader dispersion characteristics. It also offers design freedoms as the shallow depth requirements of an NXT speaker means it can be better integrated into the products.

SoundVu(R) technology facts:
NXT SoundVu technology enables the design and construction of completely transparent, ultra-thin loudspeakers that bring sound and vision together. SoundVu technology can be applied to a wide range of transparent materials, from polycarbonate plastics to laminated and tempered glass, to create a wide range of display devices that can also function as loudspeakers. The unique technology is employed via a mathematical manipulation of exciters attached to the edge of the transparent panel, a method that can be used for all types of display products, from mobile phones to flat-screen LCD monitors and televisions.

SoundVu technology removes the need for conventional loudspeakers, giving display product manufacturers added design flexibility and an easy, space-saving means of producing sound, without compromising on quality.

Highlight of products employing NXT's SoundVu technology on show at COMDEX:

NEC's VALUESTAR T PC system features a 17" monitor screen that doubles as a loudspeaker, offering space and design advantages, removing the need for additional boxy speakers, as well as locking the sound to the moving image, for a truly immersive audio experience.

Siemens 'Display Speaker Phone' prototype is equipped with a SoundVu technology display panel, replacing the conventional moving coil transducer. The demonstrator uses NXT's Distributed Mode Actuator (DMA), consisting of thin piezo-electric ceramic panels mounted in a central stub, to drive the display panel on the phone as a Distributed Mode Loudspeaker. As the pressure on space and size increases in the industry, this technology offers manufacturers a range of benefits including greater design flexibility, as well as increased functionality and superior audio quality through the wider dispersion of sound.
