iRiver America's Next Generation MP3 Players Rock CES

iRiver Adds iFP-190T Advanced Flash-Memory Player to Its Line Of Digital Music Devices

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- (CES, MEETING ROOM # N227) iRiver, the world's leading manufacturer of digital music handheld devices, today announced the unveiling of its next generation flash based memory player -- the iFP-190T. As the latest addition to iRiver's successful line of compressed audio devices, the iFP-190T is packed with features and contains 256MB of internal memory for up to eight hours of music enjoyment.

"Regardless of consumer requirements on price point, storage capacity, size, weight or power source, iRiver has a line of compressed audio devices that will meet their needs," said Jonathan Sasse, director of marketing at iRiver America. "We offer an array of products that are designed to mirror consumers' lifestyles and their music. The new iFP-190T is great for those who want several hours of music in a durable and small form factor."

Including a built-in FM tuner and voice recorder and featuring 256MB of internal memory for up to eight hours of music enjoyment, the iFP-190T comes with the exclusive "record from FM" feature and plays MP3 and WMA music files for up to 20 hours on a single AA battery. The iFP-190T is also compatible with the latest version of the MoodLogic Software. MoodLogic offers a fun and intuitive way for users to create mixes based on genre, mood and tempo rather than simply by artist and track names. The iFP-190T is loaded with features, small enough to wear and is bundled with Sennheiser MX300 earphones.

iRiver will also have on display at CES its complete flash player line including the iFP-120, iFP-140 and iFP-180T as well as a new MP3 CD device SlimX 400 that surpasses its wildly successful flagship product SlimX 350.

According to analyst group IDC, worldwide shipments of compressed audio players will approach 207 million units in 2006. This is up considerably from the 15.2 million units shipped in 2001. A key reason for the market growth is consumers downloading MP3s to their PCs are in search of ways to listen to their MP3s on the go. According to a recent survey by a Consumer Electronics Association, 30 percent of computer users listen to MP3 files on their personal computers once a month, but only 4 percent own an MP3 player.

"Some months ago music downloads comprised over a quarter of all Internet traffic. The natural progression is MP3 mobility, which is creating a surge in consumers purchasing handheld MP3 players," said Sasse. "Compressed audio player adoption is playing out similarly to the paths taken by VCRs, PCs and DVDs. Adoption skyrockets as consumers become aware of the tangible benefits and convenience directly impacting how they live their lives."

iRiver catapulted into the U.S. compressed audio player market last year at CES with the SlimX 350. Its svelte MP3 CD player commanded attention by being the thinnest and sleekest player available to consumers. Consumers embraced the innovative SlimX 350 as did the media. PC World and Computer Shopper lauded the SlimX 350 by giving it best product of the year awards and it received Editors' Choice awards from CNET, PC Magazine, ZDNet, Computer Gaming World, among others.
