SRS Labs' EVP of Technology And Business Development Alan Kraemer On Panel At The Surround 2003 Conference In Beverly Hills

Company to Showcase New Surround Sound Software Solutions and Demonstrate State-of-the-Art Audio Technologies for Surround Sound Encoding, Broadcast, and Decoding

SANTA ANA, Calif., Dec. 11, 2003 - SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRSL), a leading provider of innovative audio, voice and semiconductor technology solutions, announced today that Alan Kraemer, executive vice president of technology and business development, will serve as a panel expert Dec. 11-12 in the New Technologies Forum at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.  The panel of industry experts will discuss the latest technological innovations for surround sound, their impact on today's professional audio community and the ultimate influence these factors are having on the enjoyment of TV, radio and music.  Surround Conference 2003 is an annual gathering of surround sound professionals to stay current with the latest developments in multichannel technologies.  Conference highlights include classes, workshops, panel discussions and exhibits, including SRS Labs, whose expert staff will be demonstrating their technologies in the Roxbury room.

While president of Sierra Digital Productions, Inc., a compact disc production and recording company, Alan Kraemer wrote, produced, and engineered many 5.1 surround CDs in addition to playing piano on many of the tracks.  He is also a prolific inventor with more than half a dozen patents covering everything from making tiny speakers sound infinitely bigger to the full-bandwidth virtualization of multichannel surround sound.  Alan's work has been instrumental in fueling SRS Labs' growth over the past decade and he has been a key player in helping the company become a recognized leader in the advancement of audio and voice technology.

"I am pleased to be participating on the panel at this pivotal time in the development of surround formats and technology," said Alan Kraemer, executive vice president of technology and business development. "We are working hard to provide the latest innovations in surround sound, specifically as they apply to the creation of compatible content and its presentation in challenging environments such as the automobile.  I strongly support panels such as this one where a diversity of views can be openly discussed."

SRS Labs' technologies, in addition to being well represented by Mr. Kraemer, will also be found as a topic of discussion on Friday, Dec. 12 in a case study of the enormously popular ESPN X Games, which are produced and mixed in SRS Circle Surround®.  In this session, nationally renowned mixing expert and consultant for ESPN remote audio operations Ron Scalise describes the sophisticated audio techniques used for the X Games, with specific focus on how to overcome the unique challenges of a live surround broadcast and how Circle Surround technology helps him overcome these challenges.

In the Roxbury room at the conference, SRS Labs will be introducing two new surround sound software products to the surround sound community: SRS Circle Surround VST Pro and SRS Circle Surround Xtract 6.1 for Windows.

  • SRS Circle Surround® VST Pro

SRS Circle Surround VST Pro, now available online at www.srslabs.com, is a powerful new surround encode/decode plug-in suite for Virtual Studio Technology (VST)-powered software applications. Based upon the patented Circle Surround technology, the VST plug-in has been specifically designed to encode professional quality, full bandwidth 6.1 channel surround that remains stereo and mono compatible. The software plug-in empowers audio professionals to deliver up to 6.1 channels of surround sound over any stereo transmission and works with any surround-capable VST-compliant application for Mac OSX® and Windows® XP platforms. A decoding plug-in is included and used for monitoring playback during production, ensuring professionals that their mix is exactly what end-users will hear.

  • SRS Circle Surround Xtract 6.1 for Windows

The success of DVD has stimulated consumer demand for multichannel film soundtracks, music, and television programming. However, audio mixed and distributed with 5.1 or 6.1 channels has only been available since 1993, presenting content owners with the daunting and expensive challenge of converting their vast archives from mono, stereo, or Lt/Rt to 5.1 or 6.1 for release on DVD or digital broadcast. Clearly, the answer is a simple software solution rather than remixing, which is not only time consuming and very costly, but it also assumes the original tracks or stems can even be located. To solve these problems, SRS Labs created Xtract 6.1

In addition to Circle Surround, SRS Labs' patented technologies include various techniques for mono and stereo audio enhancement, psychoacoustic bass enhancement, voice processing, virtual surround sound and speaker designs. The company holds over 80 issued patents with over 100 pending in countries around the world.  To date, SRS technologies have been shipped or downloaded in over 300 million hardware and software products from over 200 of the world's leading brand names, including Aiwa, Denon, Hitachi, Hughes Network Systems, Kenwood, Marantz, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Philips, Pioneer, RCA, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Thomson, Toshiba, Yamaha and Zenith among others.
