DTS Debuts Latest Version of Neo:6 Surround Matrix Technology at 2004 CES

Enhanced Neo:6 Now Compatible With 96kHz Stereo Content

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) (NASDAQ:DTSI) today introduced an enhanced version of its Neo:6 technology, which can now maintain the high resolution sampling rate in 96kHz stereo source material. The first receivers to incorporate the enhanced Neo:6 are the Denon AVR5803AKU US (AVCA1SRA Japan/Europe/China,) the Pioneer VSX-59Txi and the Yamaha RX-Z9 US (DSP-Z9 worldwide.) DTS is exhibiting at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), January 8-11, in meeting room #N243 in the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall.

Developed so that consumers can experience the benefits of surround sound via stereo content libraries, DTS Neo:6 provides up to six full-band channels of surround matrix decoding from two-channel content such as CDs, VHS tapes and stereo broadcasts. Usually combined with DTS' Extended Surround technology, DTS-ES, Neo:6 is also now being made available to car audio manufacturers as a stand-alone technology license.

In addition to 96kHz compatibility, Neo:6 technology benefits include:

   * Stereo matrix to 5.1 or 6.1: Neo:6 provides up to six full-band
channels of matrix decoding from stereo matrix material. Users with
5.1 and 6.1 systems can derive five and six separate channels,
respectively, corresponding to the standard home theater speaker
layouts. (The ".1" subwoofer channel is generated by bass management
      in the preamp or receiver.)

   * Extended Surround: Neo:6 provides optimum decoding of Extended
Surround matrix soundtracks, and can also generate a back channel from
      5.1 material.

   * Natural sound field with precise localization: Neo:6 technology
allows various sound elements within a channel or channels to be
steered separately and following naturally from the original
      presentation.

   * Extended music mode: Neo:6 offers a music mode that expands stereo
non-matrix recordings into the five- or six-channel layout and without
diminishing the subtlety and integrity of the original stereo
      recording.

"DTS developed Neo:6 to bring the surround experience to a wider audience," said Brian Towne, Vice President, Consumer Division at DTS. "We are constantly striving to offer the highest quality surround presentation for all applicable content, which is why DTS believed it was important to add the ability to decode high-resolution stereo material without downgrading the quality."
