Zipper Interactive To Include A3D Support In Recoil

Zipper Interactive To Include A3D Support In Recoil
'Fremont, CA -November 2, 1998 - AurealÔ Semiconductor Inc. (Fremont, CA) (AURL:OTC Bulletin Board) today announced that Zipper Interactive has adopted A3D in RECOIL™, its 3D tank shooter game to be released early next year. RECOIL will use A3D's psychoacoustic-based audio processing for 3D audio functionality throughout the title. A3D enables positional 3D audio over headphones or two or more speakers.

"In RECOIL, players are transported to a futuristic 3D world where fast shooting and fast thinking are required to save not only themselves, but the entire world," said Harvard Bonin, producer of Recoil. "Adding support for A3D adds another dimension to the title which will help put gamers right into the middle of the action."

"RECOIL is going to be the action tank game for 1998," said Skip McIlvaine, Developer Relations Manager at Aureal. "Zipper's decision to use A3D will bring the realistic sounds of combat directly to the ears of gamers around the world. This added realism is one more reason why a Vortex 2-based sound card is the best gamer gift around this Christmas."

A3D Information

Aureal A3D is an audio technology that enables an immersive audio experience by surrounding the listener with sounds in all three dimensions - using ordinary headphones or two or more speakers. Aureal 3D is based on recreating all the hearing cues that allow us to perceive sounds in everyday life. Since people can hear sounds three dimensionally in the real world with only two ears, it must be possible to create sounds from two speakers that have the same effect.

Compaq Computer Corporation is featuring A3D on its complete new line of Presario desktop computers. Dell Computer Corporation also provides customers with A3D-enabled systems, as does Sony with it's new line of VAIO desktop computers. Major soundboard vendors using A3D and/or Aureal's Vortex 3D audio chip include Diamond Multimedia, Turtle Beach and Xitel.
