Announces Eidos Interactive's Support for A3D Audio Technology in Upcoming Game Titles |
| 'Tomb
Raider III' and 'Daikatana' Will Include Immersive A3D Audio CapabilitiesFremont, CA -
November 3, 1998 - AurealÔ Semiconductor Inc. (Fremont, CA) (AURL:OTC Bulletin Board)
today announced that Eidos Interactive (San Francisco, CA), one of the industry's leading
game development companies, will use Aureal's award-winning A3D audio technology in two of
its most anticipated upcoming game releases. TOMB RAIDER III and DAIKATANA are the first two Eidos titles to use A3D positional audio to enable positional 3D audio over 2 speaker or four speaker systems, or headphones. A3D will be used in tandem with Eidos' arcade-quality graphic visuals to create an explosive, fully immersive 3D environment. "TOMB RAIDER has one of the biggest cult following of any game title on the market - as fans of the game ourselves, being able to supply the audio technology for Lara Croft's adventures was incredibly exciting for us." said Skip McIlvaine, Developer Relations Manager at Aureal. "Eidos Interactive publishes creative, powerful, and fantastically popular games with some of the best graphics in the business - with A3D, they'll now have the best sound, too." "At Eidos we have been searching for the right 3D audio technology to complement our 3D graphic environments. In Aureal's A3D, we've found a way to make our game worlds come alive with intense audio effects," said Paul Baldwin, Vice-President of Marketing at Eidos Interactive. About A3D Aureal A3D is an audio technology that enables an immersive audio experience by surrounding the listener with sounds in all three dimensions - using ordinary headphones or two or more speakers. Aureal 3D is based on recreating all the hearing cues that allow us to perceive sounds in everyday life. Since people can hear sounds three dimensionally in the real world with only two ears, it must be possible to create sounds from two speakers that have the same effect. Compaq Computer Corporation is featuring A3D on its complete new line of Presario desktop computers. Dell Computer Corporation also provides customers with A3D-enabled systems, as does Sony with it's new line of VAIO desktop computers. Major soundboard vendors using A3D and/or Aureal's Vortex 3D audio chip include Diamond Multimedia, Turtle Beach and Xitel. About Aureal Aureal builds advanced audio semiconductor and software solutions that increase functionality and features for personal computers and consumer electronics devices. Aureal develops audio processing semiconductor chips and sound cards and also licenses technology designed to define and improve advanced audio standards in the marketplace.
