Generation Turtle Beach Montego II A3D Selected As Sound Card Upgrade for Dell®
Dimension® PCs Becomes
First Aureal Vortex 2-Based Board to Reach Consumers |
| YONKERS, N.Y., November
9, 1998 The new Turtle Beach Montego II A3D sound card has been
designated by Dell Computer [NASDAQ: DELL] as the standard sound upgrade for Dimension®
PCs with Intel® Pentium® II processors, making the Montego II A3D
the first available board to utilize the much anticipated Aureal [OTC BB: AURL] Vortex®
2 chipset. This expands Voyetra Turtle Beachs relationship with Dell, which has been
selling the first generation Montego card since February 1998. The Montego II A3D places the Vortex 2 chipset on a Turtle Beach custom-designed board to deliver premium sound quality and positional audio effects for gaming, music, or general use applications. In addition to doubling the processing power of the original Montego, the Montego II A3D utilizes the new A3D 2.0 API to add Wavetracing® technology, which models the acoustic characteristics of a virtual environment via wall reflections and occlusions in real-time. For example, an explosion behind a nearby wall will sound different from the same explosion that occurs across the room or directly overhead. Better yet, the Montego II A3D requires only a single pair of speakers or headphones for full 3D functionality. More than 100 PC game and entertainment titles currently support A3D or are under development. Other Montego II A3D features include a better than 93 dB signal-to-noise ratio; 18-bit high-resolution converters; DirectSound and DirectSound3D acceleration (96 simultaneous DirectSound audio streams); AC'97, PC '97, and PC '98 compatibility; support for legacy DOS-based games; 64 hardware-based wavetable voices, with an additional 256 voices available via software synthesis (4MB upgradable sample set); and a hardware-based, 10 band graphic equalizer. It also supports downloadable samples (DLS) for custom audio patch playback, and includes AudioStation® 32, which integrates CD audio, MIDI, and digital audio management into a single modular rack interface.
