Aureal Recognized for Outstanding Financial Performance

Fabless Semiconductor Association Awards Outstanding Fabless Companies

Aureal Semiconductor Recognized for Outstanding Financial Performanced

Fremont, CA (Dec. 9, 1998) - The Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) recognized Aureal Semiconductor [NASDAQ: AURL] as an Outstanding Financial Performer at the FSA's Anniversary Dinner Celebration on Dec. 8, 1998. The event attracted over 900 of the industry's top executives.

The FSA recognized those companies that either doubled their revenue or net income year-over-year, for the twelve-month period ending September 1998. Aureal Semiconductor was one of the winners of the Outstanding Financial Performance awards. For the twelve month periods ending September, Aureal's revenues rose from $1.7 million for 1997 to $14.7 million for 1998, a near 800% increase. This reflects Aureal's movement from technology licensing transactions in 1997 to audio semiconductor chip and board sales beginning in January 1998. This also indicates the success that Aureal has had with its Vortex audio chip architecture and A3D interactive three-dimensional audio technology combination in 1998 with its initial PCI audio offerings.

The FSA 1998 Anniversary Dinner Celebration was sponsored by leading fabless partners and supporters: American Microsystems, Inc. (AMI), Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co., Ltd. (AKM), BT Alex.Brown, Ernst & Young LLP, Gary Cary Ware & Freidenrich, LTX Corporation, Mentor Graphics Corporation, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, NationsBanc Montgomery Securities, Inc., Silicon Valley Bank, STATS, Synopsys, Teradyne, TSMC and UMC Group.
