| Andrea Electronics Also Receives Notice of Allowance of Patent for EchoStop(TM) Acoustic Echo Cancellation Software |
| MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 29
/PRNewswire/ -- Andrea Electronics Corporation (AMEX: AND - news) announced today that the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued the Company a patent (U.S. Patent No.
6,009,519) for Andrea Electronics' AudioCommander® software, which allows Windows®-based
PC users to achieve a superior audio interface to control PC multimedia microphone and
audio applications. In addition, the Company stated that it has been granted a Notice of
Allowance of patent claims directed to its interference canceling apparatus and methods
involving its EchoStop(TM) technology. EchoStop was developed for use with conferencing
systems such as group audio and videoconferencing systems, PC speaker phones, online
gaming software, cellular car phone kits and more. This recent patent issue is part of Andrea Electronics' position of 16 U.S. patents which focus on the enhancement of speech for computer-based voice communications. ``Today's announcement represents a significant milestone for Andrea Electronics as we work to transition the Company to become a leading provider of software-based digital audio technology solutions,'' said Joseph Marash, Chief Technology Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation. ``Our growing line of acoustic audio input software technologies is expected to become the focal point of our product initiatives. As our patent portfolio continues to grow, it will further strengthen our position as a leading provider of next-generation voice enhancement technologies for PC and web-based communications applications.'' Andrea Electronics' AudioCommander software is a ``virtual'' audio control panel which offers an ``ease of use'' feature for warning and correcting application set-up problems that commonly hinder multimedia performance for PC users. With AudioCommander, users can eliminate the frustrating process of having to constantly check and set microphone and speaker, recording and playback control levels for optimal audio input/output. EchoStop is an advanced acoustic echo cancellation software algorithm that allows true full duplex communication over a conferencing system, even when the system is used in large spatial environments that may be vulnerable to long reverberation times. The software algorithm's proprietary processing enables seamless residual echo suppression capabilities providing clear communications, even in highly reverberant, live room environments -- from a conference room to a kitchen. EchoStop also incorporates noise reduction algorithms to reduce the background noise of both input and output audio, thus preventing the accumulation of interfering noise over multi-point conferencing scenarios. Andrea Electronics recently announced the launch of its new e-commerce website, http://www.AudioCommander.com, designed to act as an e-commerce delivery vehicle for distribution of Andrea Electronics' digital far-field audio enhancement software products and upgrades. AudioCommander.com offers users the ability to download and purchase Andrea Electronics' audio input microphone products and solution technologies, including AudioCommander 2.0, which enhance ``ease of use'' for computer audio settings. Other Andrea Electronics products and technologies to be offered through AudioCommander.com include PureAudio(TM) software, a noise canceling algorithm which improves the intelligibility of audio communications by enhancing speech and reducing noise; the Andrea DA-400 Desktop Array(TM), a digital, far-field microphone system which allows users to speak to or through their computers without a headset or handset; the Andrea Universal Serial Bus (USB) Microphone Array, a digital, far-field microphone solution with the convenience of USB plug-and-play connectivity and the new Andrea Sound Card Array(TM), a small desktop device which captures and passes multiple streams of audio to the sound card for enhanced audio processing of speech-driven applications. Andrea Electronics Corporation designs, develops and manufactures audio technologies and equipment for enhancing applications that require high performance and high quality voice input. The Company's patented Active Noise Reduction (ANR READY®) earphone, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) near-field microphone, patented Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA®) and patent-pending Directional Finding and Tracking Array (DFTA(TM)) far-field microphone technologies enhance a wide range of audio products to eliminate background noise and ensure the optimum performance of voice applications. Applications for the Company's technologies include: speech recognition programs, Internet telephony, video/audio conferencing, automobile PCs, home automation systems, hand-held devices and multiplayer online games, among others. OEM and software publisher customers and strategic partners of Andrea Electronics' include: IBM Corporation, Intel Corporation, Symbol Technologies, Inc., Clarion Corporation of America, Microsoft Corp., Lernout & Hauspie, Audio Technica, J.
