All-Digital Amplifier is 1st New Class in 20 Years

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000--JAM Technologies announced the world's first high quality, high power, all-digital amplification technology that generates output voltage equaling 300-400% of the input voltage, using no transformers or DC/DC converters. REVA(TM) True Fidelity® is the only low-cost, LSI-based amplification approach that reproduces sixteen bits or more of digital audio resolution at the output stage. The result of seventeen years of development, REVA True Fidelity is the first Class J rail-exceeding, variable amplitude switching amplifier.

REVA True Fidelity is being implemented first in the computer industry because it produces continuous average power of up to 50 watts per channel into 4 ohms or 25 watts per channel into 8 ohms, using only the computer's standard, internal 5-volt power supply. High resolution audio is now possible in notebook and desktop computers.

Whereas all other mainstream digital audio amplification approaches require at least one conversion to analog format, REVA True Fidelity defies convention by accepting a digital data stream, amplifying it digitally, and sending the precisely filtered, all-digital result out to any conventional, non-self-powered speakers.

``Resolution degradation caused by switching delays is a primary reason that other companies' attempts at digital amplification produce distortion,'' said Larry Kirn, Chief Technology Officer. REVA True Fidelity avoids the problems of silicon latency associated with Class D amplifiers, and releases the natural richness and warmth that have always lain dormant in digital recordings.

Some of the unique performance parameters of REVA True Fidelity in desktop computers are: input voltage that is as low as 3.3 volts, maximum peak output voltage of plus or minus 20 volts using only a standard 5-volt power supply, about 90% efficiency, low distortion at full power, quiescent noise floor of at least -96 dB, and full-power bandwidth of 0 Hz to 20 kHz.
