| Device Provides One-Touch Access to Personal CD Libraries, Streaming Audio, and Every Music File on the Internet |
YONKERS, N.Y., April 25, 2000 Voyetra Turtle Beach, Inc. today announced one of the worlds first home-networked audio appliances the Turtle Beach AudioTron at Microsofts Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHECä ). The device, which transmits and receives data via standard in-wall phone wiring, can organize and play an unlimited number of digital music files stored on the owners personal computer or found on the Web. In doing so, the PC becomes a huge music jukebox, delivering audio to any room in which the AudioTron resides. For instance, an AudioTron in the living room can play WMA and MP3 files saved on a PC located in another part of the house. The product is expected to ship this fall in time for holiday buying. "Everyone has heard of the home of the future, when your appliances will talk to your PC. That day has finally come with the introduction of AudioTron," said Carmine J. Bonanno, president and CEO, Voyetra Turtle Beach. "We expect that AudioTron will be purchased by computer owners who also have a love for music, the same group that snapped up DVD players when they came on the market. You can picture them proudly showing the unit to their friends, thumbing through thousands of songs at the touch of a button." After buying AudioTron at a local electronics store or computer retailer, the new owner can be using the device in less than an hour. The first step is to install song management software on his PC, and to plug the included computer network card into a phone jack (AudioTron will not interfere with normal phone operation or DSL Internet service). After hooking AudioTron into a home stereo system or attaching a set of amplified speakers, he or she connects it to a phone jack and turns on the device. Then the fun begins. Using either the included remote control or buttons on the AudioTron base unit, the owner can play all the digital music stored on his computer, creating custom playlists, randomizing song playback, and more. Album and song titles if stored as part of the digital music file will be shown on the base units lighted LCD display. Users can obtain digital music in a variety of ways. They can use the included Voyetra AudioStation 4.0 software to record songs off of CDs that they already own, storing them in a digitally compressed format. MP3 files can be downloaded from a number of online sites, either royalty-free for many up and coming artists or for a small fee from major record labels. Owners can also use Windows streaming audio with AudioTron, listening to music, sports, talk shows, and any other event broadcast on the Web. ###
