SigmaTel Joins Intel on Asia/Pacific CNR Road Show; SigmaTel Demonstrates Riser Cards That Deliver Two, Four and Six-Channel AC'97-Based Sound to Personal Computers

AUSTIN, Texas, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- SigmaTel, Inc., an Austin-based leading provider of high-performance integrated circuits (ICs) for high-speed broadband communications, wireless and personal computer (PC) audio solutions, announced today it is teaming up with Intel to support and promote communications network riser (CNR) technology on Intel's Asia/Pacific road show this week.

SigmaTel will promote its multi-channel host audio solutions for CNR cards while on tour in Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

``We see this as another step in continuing SigmaTel's leadership in delivering AC'97 audio solutions,'' said Alan Hansford, vice president of marketing for SigmaTel. ``Teaming up with Intel for this road show strengthens our position in the market, as well as with our relationship with Intel and major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).''

Mercury Research, an independent market research firm, currently rates SigmaTel as the largest supplier of AC'97 audio codecs. This market share, in concert with the company's demonstrated leadership in AC'97 audio codec development, uniquely positions SigmaTel to capitalize on the opportunities presented by CNR technology. In addition to AC'97 codecs, SigmaTel ships host audio solutions and is developing a combination xDSL/V90 single-chip modem for residential use.

The CNR specification is an open industry specification and defines a hardware-scalable OEM motherboard riser and interface supporting audio, modem and local area network (LAN) interfaces of core logic chip sets. All of SigmaTel's audio codecs and multi-channel host audio solutions are designed in accordance with CNR standards.
