Introduction

Update: The S2000 system is now available for only $40 from AVB's website. This makes the system a lot more interesting option than when we posted the review.  It's still not excellent buy but it's a good buy if want a flat panel system and don't demand powerful bass.

Founded in 1973, AVB boasts a history of quality high performance products. AVB’s beginnings were as a manufacturer of various carbon film potentiometers made principally for export. From those roots, a natural progression to joystick manufacturing occurred as joystick motion is dependent upon the use of potentiometers. AVB’s current focus is primarily, but obviously not limited to, providing the world with the quality game controllers. AVB’s specialty emphasizes OEM and OEM products and most manufacturing occurs in their certified ISO-9001 compliant factory in China. In order to be an industry leader and not follower AVB heavily emphasizes R&D into the future of gaming, with new technologies, advanced systems, high end devices, and specialty niche items always on their drawing board.

AVB’s customer base is a strong one, bolstered by their commitment to quality and customer service. While you might not recognize the name AVB, some of the world’s largest, leading computer-related companies have AVB products under their own brand name.

So where do the Sonix S-2000 fit into the picture. Rather than fitting into AVB’s own R&D, my impression is that with the S-2000 AVB is aiming to take advantage of their very strong customer base and the current popularity of flat panel speakers by using exiting flat panel technology from SLAB. This is in the form of two 25 x 12cm flat panels driven by 6 watts RMS each and a subwoofer that uses a 5 ½ inch driver driven by 20 watts RMS. In a design concept similar to Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000, the S-2000 comes with an on/off switch and volume control that’s connected to the subwoofer/amp with an 8 foot cable. All of this comes at an affordable price of $84.98. In this review we will see if the S-2000 has what it takes to be an effective entry into the value priced speaker market.

So on to detailed overview and installation
