Kingpin: Life of Crime Will Support 3Dsound

- January 6 99 6:00pm EST - Mikael

I've just spoken with our development group about your question. And
this was there reply:
"without 3D sound, Kingpin couldn't work. All action, speech and dress
within the game is raw."They're in the process of working out the strengths and weakness' of one vs.
the other.

Unreal: Tournament will support 3Dsound
- January 6 99 6:00pm EST - Mikael

Unreal Tournament and Unreal 2 will use the same audio engine, so yes they will support
A3D/EAX. Right now we're working with both Aureal and Creative to add support for A3D2 and EAX2..

-Carlo

Terminus will support DS3D, EAX and A3D
- December 30 2 98 6:00pm EST - Mikael

Terminus supports 3D sound through multiple ways:

* DS3D
* A3D
* EAX (reverb)
* Software - we have a great software 3D sound system for those people
without 3D sound hardware. Included are features such as doppler shifting
so you can hear ships/weapons/missiles scream by around you!.

Blood2: The Chosen will support A3D, DS3D and EAX
- December 18 6 98 6:00pm EST - Mikael

Things are going well.  We've actually decided to use Miles to support EAX/A3D/DS3D.  We're almost done with the work we need to do (just working out a few minor issues with RAD on a couple of things).  Hopefully by early January we'll have something to release.

Gabriel Knight 3 may support 3D sound
- November 30  98 6:00pm EST - Mikael

According to the producer of GK3:
Currently we support Direct 3D sound and the cards it supports. We will be
making some changes so this may not be true for all machines. Currently we
are thinking we will use Direct 3D sound only if the machine has 3D Sound
hardware support, otherwise we will fake the 3D sound in our code.

GK3 is scheduled to release in Spring '99- that is why do not have a
definite answer for this title. .

When released Tzar: The Burden Of The Crown will support DirectSound 3D

Metro Cop Will Not Support Any 3Dsound API
- September 3.98 12:28pm EST - Frank

Havn't seen these in a while, eh? If you still dont know what these so called soundwaves are, we suggest you go to the Soundwaves section and do some slight reading. We sent our patented (We wish) soundwave to the developers at VX Software. We wanted to know if Metro Police would support any sort of 3Dsound API. We got a response and here was what they had said:

Our game Metropolice will not use any 3D API simply because
of our tight schedule and there will be no patch in the future, but
we will develop other games based on our 3D engine wich then
will include 3D sound.

Slave Zero to support A3d, Creative EAX and DS3D
- August 5,98 7:40 pm EST - Mark

I was checking out Slave Zero, Accolade's forray into the big bot market and could not find any references to sound so I sent them a question about planned support. We got the following prompt response back from them.

Yes, we are planning to support most of the 3D sound cards and API's. Currently we support Creative Labs EAX and A3D. We also support DS3D (Direct Sound 3D). We will continue to support these systems and more in Slave Zero. Hope that helps!

Amen ...Planned To Support DirectSound3D
- August 2,98 11:11am EST - Frank

You want a soundwave you say, well here is one hot soundwave. Although short, the folks at cavedog which are developing Amen got back to our email and gave a very short but helpful response. Here's what they said

Yes, we plan to support DirectSound3D.

Rainbow Six Will Support DirectSound3D
- July 13,98 3:06am EST - Frank

Mur Lafferty from Redstorm picked up our Soundwave on which 3dsound API they will support for Rainbow Six. Rainbow6 is sort of like SpecOps, and looks awesome and very detailed.Mur gave us a simple reply saying: Rainbow Six will support DirectSound3d. Check their site out for more info.

Motorhead Might Support A3D
- July 11,98 5:26am EST - Frank

We fired a soundwave to the guys at Digital Illusions on behalf of Motorheads 3Dsound implementation. And Fredrik gave us a response. First off let me just say this game looks stunning! Along with this post I have provided some pic links that may help you see what I'm talking about. Pic1     Pic2     Pic3     Pic4     Pic5     Pic6

We are currenlty looking into the possability to add
support for Aureal3D.  If it is succesfull in implementing this in
Motorhead we will release a patch.
Fredrik - DICE

Max Payne Will Be Supporting 3Dsound
- July 10,98 5:26am EST - Frank

I'd like to thank our new member Joel Jordan to 3DsoundSurge. He was cool enough to transfer some of the work he did at his previous sound site (soundstop). He mentioned this would be good for a soundwave, so we had to paste this info on Max Paynes 3Dsound support. Does this guy look like Ace Ventura or what? They just updated their development script so you might want to check out the site. Here's an AVI and a Real Video , oh and some Images. Pic1 Pic2 Pic3

"Max Payne will be supporting 3D sound, but I'm not sure I'm ready to disclose which "standard" yet, as the discussion is quite heated on the subject (Aureal3D, Qsound, DS3D). We are experimenting what would be the best API to go for in the long run. Also it is not very clear yet what are the benefits of audio accelerators with different API's at this point. Music will be digital streamed audio. No XM or CD Audio."

Best Regards,
Markus

Black And White Will Be Using QMixer
- June 8,98 2:02pm EST - Frank

We fired this up to Lionhead Studios where Russell Shaw gave us the information on Black & White sound system. With a short detailed answer, I'm sure you guys will like it. We'd like to thank the people over at Lionhead Studios for answering our SoundWave. Below is the full scoop along with some cool screenshots. Click Here for the Realaudio Lionhead music.

Black & White will be using the QMixer 3D library which obviously uses DSound3D.
Music will be AC3 Dolby Digital using a special API which allows interactivity between AC3 tracks.
Multi-Channel surround is the aim.
- Russell Shaw Lionhead Studios

Pic1 - This is the stage we are at the moment.

Pic2 - And this is the kind of look we are aiming for.

I-War Will Not support Any 3D sound
- June 6,98 12:20pm EST - Frank

I-War from Partyicle Systems is one awsome looking game I must say, so we had to send them a soundwave to see if it would support A3D, Directsound3d, Qsound, Live! or any other 3d positional API. They had a quick response to our letter. Here's a Pic if you want to see how it looks. Below is the e-mail concerning the sound issue.

We don't have any plans at the moment to incorporate 3D sound support.
The game does have very good positional sound effects at the moment, but they don't use any 3D sound technology.
Our next game will almost certainly support 3D sound technology, as it'll probably be built into the API.

Hostile Waters Will Support DirectSound3D

- June 1,98 - 12:00pm EST - Frank

We recieved our soundwave from Rage and they threw in a line stating "Hostile Waters" will support Direct3DSound. Slated to release (Q1) 1999 Here are some pics:

John Romero - Daikatana To Use Miles Sound System
- June 30,98 - 3:25am EST - Frank

We didn't expect John Romero from ION storm to e-mail us back our soundwave do to the fact he must be a busy guy with his latest project Daikatana. But he did, he slipped us this little detail about the sound system in daikatana.

We will be using the Miles Sound System, which I believe uses DirectSound3D and ESS.

SpearHead Wont Support 3Dsound Anytime Soon
- June 23,98 - 3:40pm est - Frank

Vince Mathew / InteractiveMagic / Product Manager of Spearhead sent our Soundwave back to us with some detail as to what may happen to SpearHeads 3Dsound support. Here is the full e-mail:

To answer your questions, unfortuantely at this time there are no plans to support 3D
audio cards with Spearhead. However, 3D audio is a very hot topic with our
dev. team and the producer assures me we are addressing this issue. A patch
for Spearhead is possible, but not in the immediate future.

Blade Will Support Q-Sound
- June 22,98 - 5:58am est - Frank

We sent RebelActStudios one of our spicy sound waves on their upcoming Rpg based game Blade. We got a short reply stating it would support Qsound. So here's more information we would like to give the average gamer: With over 15 different environments, Blade has one of the most powerful engines you have ever seen.  The world of Blade is designed totally in 3D.    The characters and objects are created with polygons in real 3D and include skeletal deformation systems with gouraud shadowing, texture mapping and inverse kinematics - all in real time.  Characters walk, run, jump, swim, dive, crawl and fly. It uses Q-Sound technology 3D Positional Stereo sound. The game will support any screen resolution, starting from 320x200 pixels with 16-bit color depth up to 1024x768 pixels. Blade will also support special hardware such as the 3Dfx, Power VR, 3D Blaster Card, MGA Matrox acceleration, I-Glasses and MMX. Here's some pics.

Seed Will have DirectSound For Now
- June 19th - 4:20am est - Frank

We recieved our SoundWave we sent to the developers of Seed. Based on its great looking game (pic at the bottom) Here's the soundwave:

We have not been implemented any 3D sound system into the game yet
however according to our hopes it will be.  Actually must admit we are
pretty unacquainted with such APIs therefore we are considering to use
Microsoft's DirectSound.

Hexen2 Will Not Have A3D, Although Heretic2 And Soldier Of Fortune Are Possible
- June 18th - 5:05pm est - Frank

I played hexen 2 a while ago and just had to ask Raven if they had any intension of throwing a 3dsound patch on it. They gave me info on other games that will support 3d Positional sound. They replied

No, sorry. There are not currently any plans to support A3D or the like
in Hexen 2. Our new titles that we are currently working on will have
support for A3d in them. This includes both Soldier of Fortune and
Heretic 2.

Private Wars To Support 3D Sound

- June 18th - 4:53pm est - Frank

Our good man sergey from Tsgroup-inc gave us more info than we expected on this one. It appears private wars will support both A3d and Directsound3d Here is more:

Yes, we support for positional sound. In fact we believe that it's hard to
create "be there" feel without any 3D sound sources. We started using
positional audio in our previous project - racing game called "Lethal
Speed". We used our own proprietary algorithms for creating stuff like a
Doppler effects and so on
.

Right now for Private Wars, we'll support both Aureal3D and DirectSound3D as well. Personally I think A3D will be our primary platform for positional audio.

Plus we use our own algorithms to create different sound effects from set of
basic sounds - imagine having several simple wilderness effects like a
cicadas and cricket sound, then add ambient wind and mix them to create
unique sound pattern for environment.

( T.T.T ) Thrust' Twist Turn Will Support Directsound3d, A3d
- June 18th - 5:03am est - Frank

Dont you just love the soundwaves? T.T.T. is going to be one of the best looking racing games yet. Why not make it the best sounding game yet? Cartsgame has a couple of pictures on it, and let me tell you, this is one game to look forward to. Since we were visually impressed by the graphics , we sent a soundwave to Cartsgame hoping they would reply back. They did, Check this out:

We are currently testing different methods to get surround sounds in T.T.T.
The game will support at least Aureal´s A3d and Microsoft´s DirectSound3D.

-Mika / CARTS

Ares Rising - Joel
- June 10,  5:22pm est - Frank

We fired a Soundwave up to Imagine Studios. We asked if Ares Rising would have any sort of 3Dsound API implemented or a patch coming later on . Joel from ImagineStudios replied:

Here is what our producer said:

"We support DirectSound through Miles sound system, but there isn't any support for DirectSound3D.  We've got stereo, but that's about it."

-Joel
Just thought you might wanted to know that.

Spencer Maiers from Monolith
- June 10, 12:34am est - Frank

Well, here's a new *SoundWave*. We contacted (Spencer) from Monotlith and asked him if they would support 3d positional sound in games to come? He replied:

"Our 3D products will definitely support 3D positional audio... In fact,
we support many new audio features like Interactive Music in our 3D
games. Check out our 3D engine here: http://www.lithtech.com"

Special thanks to spencer for the reply. We keep it short all the time so that we get a reply.Watch for more Soundwaves to come.

Micheal Puffy - and Deliverence
- June 5, 2:34am est Frank

I gave Big Mike there a question on whether Deliverence would support A3D or DirectSound3D, He e-mailed me back saying:

"Right now we have no plans for 3D positional audio in Deliverance From
The Dark.  It is a pre-rendered 3D isometric perspective game, so you
won't be "in" the environment.   Our next engine will be 3D and we will
use 3D sound at that time, but that's still a couple years in the
future. (^_^)"

Later,
Michael Duffy

*He also gave me a happy face with that.

Pax Wars E-mail
- June 4, 12:01am est Frank

"We're currently supporting Direct sound with the 3d stuff.  We'll probably be doing other stuff as we get closer to release. Patches suck...Anything we care enough to support, we'll ship with."

-Randy Pitchford aka DuvalMagic™
 Chief Game Architect
 Rebel Boat Rocker, Inc

Obviously not a patch supporter, The folks at id should talk to him about that.

Shiny's Messiah E-mail
